After 9-11, average Americans worked to defend the country while progressives in the progressive movement viewed Iraq, Afghanistan and Gitmo as political opportunities to politically attack America.  For progressives like Pelosi and Obama, Iraq was a political message used to seize initial political power in 2006 and ultimate, massive, political power in 2008.
