Far-Left political theory makes the argument that the proper role of the U.S. Federal Government based in Washington, DC is "to offer" products and services to the American people.  This kind of thinking is what leads to totalitarianism.  Just ask a few of the remaining White Rose survivors.

In the United States of America, the proper domestic function of the federal government is to maintain a minimum structure of national rules that ensures the maximum amount of personal freedom consistent with lawful behavior.  The federal government should stay out of average American’s lives as these ‘sovereign’ individuals pursue their own happiness.  As an American, you possess three rights, endowed by your creator and inalienable: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  You do not have a right to a job or car or pill or TV, period.
